Last April of 2011, Sony disclosed the massive hacking of its PlayStation Network (PSN) , which exposed 77 million accounts, and warned their users about scams involving identity theft. Almost two years after this incident, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) fined Sony over the hacking, which the said UK government body deemed as “something that could have been prevented.” The ICO also published a notice of Monetary Penalty, complete with their findings , regarding the breach. On the other hand, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment commented that the company with file an appeal against the imposed fine.
